1897
Our journey begins
Our story began in July 1897, when Nippon (Nissay) Life Assurance Co., Inc. was formed by Sukesaburo Hirose. A pioneer within the industry, we became the first Japanese insurer to offer profit dividends to policyholders.
1913
Solid foundation for trust
Chiyoda Fire Insurance Co. Ltd established and becomes a powerful influence in the market, providing a solid foundation for consumer trust.
1984
From Japan to Australia
Chiyoda Fire & Marine Insurance (Chiyoda) started selling insurance business in Australia as a branch of Japan.
2001
Aioi: Unity in mergers
Chiyoda and Dai Tokyo merged to create 'Aioi', signifying 'unity' in Japanese. This was also the year when Dowa Fire and Marine merged with Nissay General Insurance to establish the Nissay Dowa Insurance Company.
2006
Forming strategic partnerships
Aioi Insurance Company Ltd started underwriting Toyota Insurance policies in Australia.
2010
Merging strengths: MS&AD
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, Aioi Insurance, and Nissay Dowa General Insurance merged to create our parent company, MS&AD Insurance Group.
2013
Adica Insurance
Aioi Nissay Dowa Management Australia Pty Ltd renamed to Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company Australia Pty Ltd (Adica) driving business success.
2014
A pivotal year for expansion
Adica commenced underwriting insurance products in Australia, while also continuing to act as the Corporate Agent of Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company Ltd.
2025
Small-Medium General Insurance Company of the Year
Winner 2024, 2025. Finalist 2021, 2022, 2023. ANZIIF Small-Medium General Insurance Company of the Year award for the second consecutive year! These two victories highlight Adica’s commitment to our customers, partners, and staff.

We maintain the highest standards of service and accountability through strict regulatory oversight. Our operations are regulated by both the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) and the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (APRA). As active members of the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA), we’re committed to upholding the General Insurance Code of Practice, ensuring transparent and fair dealings with all our clients.

Corporate Management

The Board of Directors, led by the Chairman, represents Adica’s interests and upholds the balance of creative leadership, operational excellence, and business integrity. The management structure is both hierarchical and collaborative, headed by the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, and supported by the Executive Leadership Team and Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Japan (ADJ) Group Executives.
